7 Perceptions: Overview

Every sense is vibration in space and time, yet red doesn’t sound like anything and middle C has no flavor, the physics converges while experience diverges, and that gap between unified substrate and irreducibly distinct qualities is the hard problem at its sharpest.

The retina, which is embryologically brain tissue that migrated into the eye, recombines three raw cone signals into opponent channels before any signal leaves the eye, so that the world has already been interpreted one synapse past the photoreceptors.

A ratio is dynamically stable if it resists resonant capture and acoustically stable if it produces a clean repeating waveform, these two stabilities are exact inverses, and the fractal landscape of consonance is the geometry of their opposition.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in the mathematics of the thing beheld, the golden ratio keeps appearing in living forms, wabi-sabi finds beauty in imperfection and transience, and both are beautiful because what the eye finds beautiful is a record of the structures that have mattered.
